Trying to settle something with a couple guys I work with. We've been wanting to get a pickup game going on weekends now that it's (barely) cooling off in the evenings, and with everything still weird with indoor gyms I'd rather stay outside anyway. Problem is every outdoor court I've tried around Conway is in rough shape.
Last Saturday I took my nephew to one and the rim was bent down at an angle, no net, and the backboard had that warped, chalky look where every shot off the glass goes somewhere you didn't aim. Another one had the asphalt so cracked and heaved up that I was more worried about rolling an ankle than anything. I do home repair stuff for fun so it was physically painful not to have a wrench and a level with me. Honestly if somebody knew who to call at the city about a rim I'd almost volunteer to help re-hang it.
I've heard Pompe Park on Prince Street mentioned but haven't been out there yet. Anybody know how the goals are holding up? Also open to church courts if they're not locked off, and school courts if people actually play on them. I know some of the schools chain things up or run you off, so I'd rather ask first than get a talking-to.
Bonus question: does anyone know of a regular pickup run around UCA, or is it mostly just whoever shows up? I'm 30-something with bad knees, so I'm not looking to get dunked on by a college kid, but I'd happily run 3-on-3 with whoever. Even a good hoop with a flat spot to play on would make my week.
