So the runoff is done and Tyler Moses beat Shannan Knudsen 2,138 to 1,863 for the Zone 3 seat. Linda Hargis didn't run again, so that seat was open. The Cabin has the writeup here if you missed it: Moses to represent Zone 3 on Conway School Board
Do the math and that's about 4,000 people who bothered to vote in a town this size. I've seen bigger crowds at a Cadron Creek subdivision yard sale on a Saturday morning, and those people at least show up for a $3 lamp. 😅 The margin was 275 votes, so it wasn't a blowout, but it wasn't razor thin either.
Here's what I'm wondering, and I'd guess other parents are too. What does he actually plan to push once he's sitting there? Teacher pay has been the elephant in the room for a while, and I'd like to hear a real answer from him on it, not a campaign-sign answer. Then there's the superintendent grievance business that was all over the news back in September. I'm not going to pretend I know the whole story, because I don't, and I've only seen what got reported. But whoever holds that seat is going to be voting on how the district handles stuff like that, and I'd like to know where he stands before it comes up again.
So does anybody here know him personally, or did you get a chance to hear him at a forum or a meeting? Did he say anything specific, or was it the usual "students first, transparency, community" bingo card? I'll be honest, I read about half of what the candidates put out and my eyes glazed over on most of it.
Also, the board meetings are open to the public. I know almost nobody goes unless something blows up, and I'm guilty of that too. But if he's going to be our guy for Zone 3, maybe a few of us ought to show up at the first couple and see how it goes. Not looking for a fight, just want to know what we got. 🤷♂️
