Been chewing on this since the council meeting. They voted 7-1 to table the temporary development moratorium over water capacity until the Dec 8 meeting. Here's the Log Cabin writeup if you missed it: Conway City Council tables development moratorium amid drought concerns
What stuck with me is that Conway Corp says we're still in Phase 3B of the drought plan, about 20 inches under the 10-year average rainfall through September. We're using around 10 million gallons a day, roughly 5 million from Lake Brewer and most of the rest from Cadron Creek. That doesn't leave a ton of cushion if it stays dry. One of the aldermen asked about Beaverfork Lake as another source, which seems like a fair question, though I have no idea what it would take to make that happen or how long.
Mayor Castleberry said moratoriums over water capacity aren't unprecedented, so I guess it's not some wild idea. I'm not anti-growth, I love seeing new places open up and more people coming to shows and church stuff around here. But it feels like we should know the water math before another round of building gets approved, not after.
Curious what folks think. Is waiting until December reasonable or just kicking the can? Anybody know more about the Beaverfork option? And has anyone noticed a difference on their end, like restrictions or a higher bill?
